A Message from Gerrie

Greetings %$firstname$%,

Have you been impacted by the dynamic weather patterns in June?

According to one report about Greater Philadelphia’s weather, we had 2 days in June without rain, a record that dates back to the 1930s!

It reminds me of the dynamic and fast moving changes in today’s business world. Leaders at all levels are uncertain about the daily forecast – Is it going to rain? When? How much? What’s the impact on me?

June 21 was the official start to the Summer season that typically triggers a slower pace. But the ongoing changes in large and mid-size companies are dramatic!

For example: One company is entertaining conversations about a buy-out and the rumors are spreading like wildfire! As a result, 20% of the people resigned from one department.

  • Did they resign because of fear, sound logic, rationale decision making about the vulnerability of their job, or did it reflect a low ‘success set point’?

Other ‘this or that’ issues that are keeping leaders up at night include:

  • Do I stay the course with my current company or explore new opportunities?
  • Do I focus on advancing my career internally or be grateful for my current role and do my best in the present?
  • Do I ASK for a well deserved raise or accept the standard 2% - 3% increase?

Take these questions and uncertainties, and compound them with a company that is restructuring and eliminating jobs, a product line that’s diminishing or product demand that is changing … what would you do?

Although it seems rather simplistic, a big factor is your MINDSET!

  • Would you thrive through adversity and uncertainty or feel powerless and stuck?

Feature Article:
“Thrive through Change … Elevate Your Success Set Point!”

Although it’s invisible, each of us has an inner thermostat setting that impacts the level of success, love, creativity, etc that we allow.

When you push up against your set point during an externally imposed change, you have a few options – to challenge yourself and ‘thrive through change’, accept the situation, or succumb to the stress and become the victim of the externally imposed change.

  • Have you heard the quote, ‘what you focus on expands’?

When your success set point is pushed beyond your comfort zone or you exceed your inner thermostat setting, people start complaining, feel frustrated for no apparent reason, or start to worry and get distracted with the ‘worry’.

So, your focus is shifted to what isn’t working … and it’s what expands!

Although it feels natural to worry under stressful circumstances, according to Gay Hendricks, author of The Big Leap, the ‘worry’ is just a distraction from stepping out in a bigger way in our life.

  • Here’s a tough question to answer objectively, “Are you using ‘worry’ to sabotage your growth and potential by worrying?”

For example, when faced with adversity, do you focus your attention on setting goals to exceed your set point and thrive through the transition OR do you maintain the status quo and keep your head down?

Whichever direction you take, it’s noticed!

According to Gay Hendricks, “millions of people are stuck on the verge of reaching their goals, can’t seem to scale the wall, and are struggling to break through a self-imposed glass ceiling”.

  • Are you ready to elevate your success by making a few minor adjustments in your daily life?

  1. One of the keys to elevate your success set point is to feel good about the present. Each night, list 5 things that you are most grateful about for that day. As you start to feel good about the present, external aspects of your life shift to match your positive internal emotions.
  2. Look beyond your ‘worry-thoughts’. Something positive is trying to get your attention, so discover the new direction that’s being opened for you.
  3. Eliminate criticism . . . call a complete halt to it! Notice your critical statements, even if you’re just thinking them. Which ones do you actually plan to do something about? Do something about them and eliminate the others.

Keep in touch … what strategies have helped you to thrive through adversity?
