myself about the theme that I selected for 2012, ‘Adventure’.
When you select a theme, it needs to be a
stretch that takes you into unfamiliar territory that feels energizing
AND challenging and also helps you to move toward your New Year

see it every day. You still have almost 9 months to achieve your 2012 goals!

"3 Simple Practices to uplevel your HAPPINESS"

It’s people, and more specifically, it’s the manager or ‘boss’. So,

the ‘UNcivil behavior’ by bosses [and others, as well] is often
precipitated by the ongoing restructuring, reorganizing, and downsizing

In addition to the pressure and stress that everyone feels, it has a
significant negative effect on the company’s business
performance. Employees feel anxious and fearful which often results in
decreased creativity and productivity. In the research, some managers
report feeling that people are MORE creative and productive when they
feel threatened, uncomfortable or anxious about their jobs.
The research shows just the opposite … people hold back when
threatened and excel when they are ‘appropriately’ challenged
with goals that are a stretch, but not out of reach. Reward works
There is also extensive research that confirms the correlation
between happiness, productivity, and being focused.
The major finding in a study of 15,000 people in 83 countries uncovered
the fact that people’s minds wander nearly half the time [that’s 50% of
the time!] and this appears to lower their mood. In addition to reducing
happiness, mind wandering on the job also reduces productivity.
According to the researchers, “wandering to unpleasant or even
neutral topics is associated with sharply lower happiness;
straying to positive topics has no effect either way.”
It’s a bit surprising, but whether you are a CEO, executive,
entrepreneur, emerging executive or emerging leader, or a professional,
there are 3 simple practices that you can put into practice immediately
that will uplevel your happiness and focus and reduce your mind
As a result, your productivity and sustained performance will increase,
so it’s a total win across the board - the company, your
organization, your team, and you all win!
- Pay at least as much attention to where
your mind is as to what your body is doing.
If you notice your mind wandering, be intentional about bringing it
back to the present or practice
- Nurture your social connections.
Engage in many daily, positive interactions with your co-workers to
have more social connection, consistently.
The frequency of your positive experiences is a much better
predictor of happiness than intensity of your positive
experiences … if you have many nice things happen each day,
you are likely to be happier than someone who has a single
truly amazing thing happen.
- Collaborate with your boss to get engaged
in projects that are a fit or be resourceful and realign your
projects so they energize and challenge you.

an important meeting, but one in which your mind often wanders?
- How will you nurture your relationships
- What are you going to do, consistently, to
energize and challenge yourself?
