A Message from Gerrie
|
Greetings,
What do you envision for 2012 . . . a
repeat of 2011 or something much better?
Even though this is the busiest time of
year, it’s also the time of year when people are setting intentions for the
New Year.
- Are you ready to make 2012 your
best year ever?
One of the intentions that I set for 2011
was to schedule a ‘speaking tour’ with diverse groups in order to
expand my awareness about the challenges and trends that you are all
experiencing.
It was one of my best New Year
intentions ever! I was scheduled to speak at least once a month at
women’s leadership events, regional conferences, and industry
specific meetings. I met many interesting leaders, and already have a number
of speaking events scheduled for 2012 ‘by invitation’!
I also set an intention to gather data
about trends for 2012 to ensure that I’m on point with the changing
business environment. Based on input from leaders that I met on my speaking
tour, your input, my client experiences, and other data driven research,
I’ve identified 5 trends for 2012.
These top 5 trends, related to leadership
and career strategies, pertain to companies in all industries and leaders at
all levels, from the C-level down.
The Top 5 Trends for 2012:
- Leaders’ intensified interest in
identifying their life purpose and taking the time to integrate
it into their career strategy.
- Companies, particularly HR
departments, communicating to leaders and individual contributors the
value of them having a clear understanding of their personal brand
and being able to articulate their value to the company.
- Leaders adopting a more strategic
perspective about their career strategy with an increased investment in
a ‘career re-invention’.
- Companies expanded investment [i.e.,
freeing up funds!] in their people through leadership and
professional development programs.
- Leaders embracing the concept of
‘You, Inc’ and operating ‘as if’ the company is their ‘client’ and
they’re engaged by the ‘client’ to achieve a specific objective.
As much as it is the perfect time for you
to embrace the trends for the New Year and uplevel your game, it’s also much
more effective and has more ‘sticking power’ when you share the goal setting
process with a group.
Which is one of the reasons that I’m offering the program,
‘Make It Your Best Year Ever!’
in January.
If you’re ready and committed to uplevel your life in 2012, join us in
January for the program, ‘Make
It Your Best Year Ever!’
You’ll be receiving a Playbook for the program, as well as a few bonus
gifts, so stay tuned for more information the first week of January!
Wish you and your family a happy and
healthy holiday season!

"Uplevel Your Game in 2012"
|
|
"How Will 2012 be Different
from 2011?"
2012 is projected to be a more positive year on
many levels, and there are numerous references on the internet. Just
google the query, ‘How will 2012 be different from 2011?'
Isn’t this the question that you can ask
yourself at the end of each year?
It’s often challenging because your intentions and goals for the new
year are based on what you DON’T want to experience. For example, you’ve
had it with X
[lost keys three times a week, always feeling tired from not getting
enough restful sleep, not exercising enough to jump start your energy,
or feeling stuck in your job or role].
- These are called AWAY FROM goals …
I DON’T WANT to have to search for my keys every morning!
- The most powerful goals are TOWARD
GOALS, and these are the goals that propel you forward . . . I
WANT to feel relaxed and prepared so that I leave for work on time
each day feeling calm and centered.
So, the key is to take time to reflect on
what you DO WANT in 2012! Create an image or experience ‘as if’ you
have it already. I know … it might feel a bit ‘abstract or woo woo’, but
it does work!
A quote from Harvey Mackay, author of The Mackay MBA of Selling in
the Real World [page 72], puts this exercise into perspective,
“Success is no surprise to visionary people. They know what they want,
determine a plan to achieve it and expect positive results.”
Are you ready to make a major shift in your life in 2012?
From my observation and research, leaders are at a much different place
now than they were in 2010 and early 2011. People had more constricted
energy around their jobs. They were fearful of losing their jobs, and
their main focus was on navigating the political landscape in corporate
America.
In just the past six months, there has been an increase in leaders
looking one to five years ahead to map out a career strategy that
aligns with their life purpose and often includes a business
startup or career reinvention.
This shift aligns with the concept of ‘You, Inc.’ that Daniel
Pink wrote about in his book, Free Agent Nation and in Tom
Peter’s article in FAST Magazine, ‘The Brand Called You’.
http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/10/brandyou.html
It’s an exciting time and a time that calls for a strong belief in
yourself.
Sir Edmund Hillary, the New Zealander, mountain climber, Antarctic
Explorer and first person to climb and reach the summit of Mount
Everest, points to the importance of having an inner strength: “It is
not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.”
This inner strengths starts with knowing what you are good at, your
core competency, that sets you apart. It’s refining this day after
day, so you naturally leverage your ‘personal brand value’ with
authenticity and integrity.
Your Coaching Challenge for the New
Year: Take time to reflect on what you DO
WANT in 2012!
- Set your intention for 2012 on being YOU
and being the best at what you do.
- Ask yourself, “What is my Mount Everest
for 2012?”
- As you review your list, compare it with
criteria that would actually increase your life vitality, e.g.,
would it make you feel energized, connected, successful, peaceful?
- Once you get a clear picture and feeling
‘as if’ you’ve reached the summit, it’s time to create a more
tangible plan to achieve what you envisioned!
- Make the commitment to do what it takes to
climb your Mount Everest [make sure to let me know when you reach
the summit!].
This is when people start to create the reasons
why it WON’T happen, how it’s too hard, that there isn’t enough time [or
space or resources . . .].
So, the next question to ask yourself is, “Am I willing to make the
commitment?”
“It’s like the woman who said to a world-class musician, “I’d give
anything to be able to play like you.” And the musician said, “I don’t
think you would, because not many people are willing to make the
commitment.” (The Mackay MBA of Selling in the Real World, page
58)
In order to anchor your commitment to your Mount Everest in 2012,
I invite you to kick off the NEW YEAR with me for the two part virtual
seminar, “Make 2012 Your Best Year Ever”,
on January 17 and 24!
Watch for your personal invitation the first week of January!
